Meet the Faculty!
Mary Rhea is Master Director of the O.K. City Chorus (Region 25). Mary is a Certified Sound Judge and International Faculty member. She serves on the Education Direction Committee (EDC) and is currently a member of the International Board of Directors. Mary sang baritone in the 2010 International Champion Quartet, Zing! When she had time, she worked as a physical therapist, primarily with the geriatric population.
Kim Vaughn has a master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy, is a Certified Sound Judge, a member of the Education Direction Committee, International Faculty coordinator, a Master 700 Director and retired Director of the 2001 International Chorus Champion San Diego Chorus. She is a 7-time Regional quartet champion and member of the Hall of Fame from Region 21 and Sweet Adeline’s first 3-time International Quartet Champion, with High Society (1976), Savvy (1988) and a cappella Gold (2001). In 2014 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jennie Morton, BSc (Hons) Osteopathy, MS Psychology
Jennie is originally from the UK and began her career as a ballet dancer. She eventually became a West End musical theatre performer, and then lead singer with a top UK big band. Jennie is an osteopath, specializing in the physical and psychological treatment of performing artists. She also works as a performance coach for singers and actors, focusing on anatomical efficiency, embodiment of artistry, movement education, and rehabilitation from vocal injury. Based in Los Angeles, Jennie is the Wellness Professor at The Colburn School, is an adjunct faculty member in the Chapman University College of Performing Arts, serves on the Board of Directors for both the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) and the Dance Resource Center (LA), and is on the Health and Wellness Committee for the International Society for Music Education. Jennie is an honorary lecturer for the MSc in Performing Arts Medicine at University College, London. She co-wrote the syllabus, and provides training workshops for medical and health professionals in the treatment of performing artists. Jennie lectures internationally to artists, arts educators, and healthcare professionals, and provides treatment from her office in West Hollywood. She is the author of 3 books: The Authentic Performer: Wearing A Mask and The Effect on Performance Health, The Embodied Dancer: A Guide to Optimal Performance, and Dancing Longer, Dancing Stronger. Britt-Heléne Bonnedahl is the founder and Co-director of the 2-time SA International Chorus Champions (2014 and 2017), Rönninge Show Chorus (Region 32), which she has directed since 1983. She has also twice achieved Master Director 700. Britt-Heléne is a Regional and Master International Faculty member, focusing on coaching and teaching vocal, communication and mental skills. She is also a winner of the very prestigious Ann Gooch award.
Kathleen Hansen is Master Director of the San Diego Chorus (Region 21) and an International Faculty member. She has a background in music education and a Master of Music degree specializing in conducting. She has worked with students of all ages. She won a gold medal as a member of the 2001 SA International Champion San Diego Chorus while doing handsprings across the stage. Kathleen also directs the Sun Harbor men’s barbershop chorus and the San Diego Women’s Chorus.
Erin Howden is Master Director 700 and choreographer for the North Metro Chorus, 5-time SA International Champion Chorus (Region 16). She sings baritone and sang with International Top 10 quartet, Daybreak. She is an International Faculty member as well as a professional trainer, motivational speaker and performance coach. Erin has her own coaching / training / consulting business called "A Step Ahead."
Deanna Kastler is the Co-director of Spirit of the Gulf Chorus (Region 9). Deanna is a Master Director and a member of the International Faculty. She is the baritone of Bling!, the 2015 SA International Champion Quartet. She has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education and loves her “day job” as an elementary music teacher. Her favorite students are her two sons who have been fully immersed into the tag-singing, barbershop way of life.
Lori Lyford is Master Director 700 of the 2019 International Chorus Champion, Scottsdale Chorus (Region 21). Scottsdale also won International gold medals in 1989, 2006, 2011, and 2016 under Lori’s direction. Singing lead, Lori is a 5-time wildcard and Regional Quartet Champion, having placed as high as 9th at International. Lori is the choir teacher at Chandler High School (AZ). Her barbershop chorus, The Treblemakers, won the 2014, 2016 and 2017 YWIH Video Chorus Contest. Lori was recipient of the 2012 NAfME SA International Educator Award, as well as being named an Arizona 2017 Top Five Educator.
Judy Pozsgay is a Certified Director, serving as the artistic director and choreographer for A Cappella Joy Chorus. Judy is former Education Director and current Education Faculty for Regions 26 and 13. She is also an International Showmanship Judge and International Faculty member. Judy is a performance coach and choreographer with award-winning visual packages showcased on regional and international stages. She is a 14-time International Quartet Top 10 finalist (Unplugged and Mojo), and is the “non-Diva” bass of the 2017 International Quartet Champions, Frenzy.
Darlene Rogers is a member of the International Faculty, a Regional 25 Faculty member, and part of the Region 10 and Region 25 Education Steering Committees. She is a partner in “Sing, Baby, Sing!”, a vocal production series created with Dale Syverson and Peggy Gram. Darlene is the recently retired Master Director of Texas Harmony Chorus (Region 10).
Sweet Adelines International
