Facilitated by Jan Carley

We are pleased to announce that Jan Carley will be our facilitator for this year’s Regional Leadership Training. Known as the Inner Coach of Barbershop, Jan will take you through the principles of generative organizational and leadership change outlined in her two popular books Harmony from the Inside Out: A Guide to Peak Performance and The Overtone Effect: Live your Life on a High Note. Her proven, step-by-step system to maximize personal and organizational success will guide you to turn weaknesses into opportunities and challenges into possibilities.

 

 

 

 

 

Every system change begins with the individual, and you will be inspired to look at and define who you are as you then look at your leadership role regionally.  Learn how can you truly “be” the change you wish to see for your Region and for yourself.

Regional Leadership Training Registration

Sweet Adelines International will provide funding for the following:

• Regional Management Teams (8 members per region)
• One night of double occupancy dormitory housing (shared bathrooms)
• Meals: Dinner on Tuesday, Breakfast/Lunch on Wednesday (cafeteria)

This funding is limited to members currently serving on a Regional Management Team. Alternates who are shadowing RMT members with a view to stepping into the role may be permitted.

Roommate Assignments

Roommate requests are not guaranteed but will be met to the best of our ability. Roommate assignments are available to regional leaders attending both the Regional Leadership Training and IES. If you are staying for IES, please do not request to room with someone who is only attending the Regional Leadership Training. If you do not list a roommate or suitemate, one will be assigned to you.

Please note: Parking is free at Trinity University!

Stay for the rest of Sweet Adelines International Education Symposium 2020, July 22–26, to continue taking part in world-class barbershop education!

Sweet Adelines International is ecstatic to offer this funded RMT training event; please note, those representing a region are responsible for travel expenses and their IES registration (separate event which includes additional nights of housing and meals). To attend the remaining IES event, and to cover travel expenses, the Regional Leadership Committee encourages regions to provide full or partial funding for regional RMTs to facilitate their participation. Keynote: The Paradigm Shift

Jan Carley will kick things off by challenging us to make a paradigm shift in how we approach leadership. There is a monumental shift from the “doing” of leadership to the “being.” Every system change begins with the individual, and in this interactive session you will be inspired to look at and define who you are as the key starting point for developing your leadership presence and role regionally. Using the foundational principles of generative organizational and leadership change outlined in Jan’s two popular books, The Overtone Effect: Live your Life on a High Note and Harmony from the Inside Out: A Guide to Peak Performance, this lively session will leave you excited and newly impassioned about the possibilities of who you can be as leader.

“Leadership is not a job description…It is being...in action.” This morning is all about YOU…and how the road to leadership mastery begins not with what you “do” but with who you “BE.” This interactive session will help you acknowledge your signature brilliance — those qualities that will allow you to lead from a position of strength and inspiration. We will talk about the brain, and you will learn how a simple flip to a generative growth mindset, focus, and language can turn weaknesses and challenges into exciting opportunities. Learn how you will make the most powerful positive impact in your Region by working from the inside out.

Session 3: Empowered Leadership
2:45–4:45 p.m.
The outdated hierarchal top-down style of “star leadership” can lead to burn-out and member disengagement. Empowered leadership is a shift to Legacy Leadership — a sustainable model that invites collaboration, shares power and helps team members develop and grow. It’s a shift from being the “sage on the stage” to the “guide on the side” — one who simply creates and holds the space for the team to flourish. This session will empower and inspire you to make the shift from reactive to creative leadership and from execution to inspiration. You will flip from stuck to possibility as you reframe weaknesses to opportunities. This shift will offer a new opportunity to nurture an atmosphere of growth and learning that inspires the talents of others to shine to their full potential.
